DIY V-Day Gift Sources

It's almost that time to start thinking about v-day. I want to go DIY and make some chonis (spanish for undies). So I have been sifting through the web for a free sewing pattern for under garments. Here you go:

This website offers a free downloadable sewing pattern for hipsters. Click here.

Here we have a website that has found 70 free lingerie sewing patterns. Can we say jackpot?! Click here.

Alas, if you are interested in making some "bloomers", you can go here.

I have already chosen to make the bloomers, simply because it looks easy, quick and budget-friendly. I plan on buying a yard of valentine's day fabric using a 50% off coupon at Joann's.

I'll keep you posted.

Winter...Too early for a Swimsuit??

I have been searching for a vintage pin up style one piece bathing suit sewing pattern. I have been surfing the net for some swimsuits from the past. Here are some images that inspire whimsical needs:

dolce-vita
This vintage two piece baby doll bathing suit is made with cotton fabric. You can find it here.

1950's Style Bathing Suit Depew 1001 by Mrs. Depew
I placed this pattern on my wishlist here. I feel that this particular style and cut is more forgiving to my curvaaaa-cious silhouette.

This is a vintage simplicity pattern 8199 from the 60's.

K3609
Just found this pattern here. This type of design will definitely flatter this hippie chick.

Now you have seen a glimpse of my style preference- a one piece bombshell bathing suit that covers my jiggle...lol.  The actual pattern that I have to jump start my out-of-season garment (still winter) is from Kwik Sew 3779 which is currently out of stock.

I will resist all temptation to buy another bathing suit pattern for now. I'll show my progress little by little.

Peace out.

Golden Globes Fashion

I couldn't resist checking out the dresses that celebrities wore for the Golden Globes. So glam your eyes over these intricate detailed gowns:

Rosario Dawson

Jessica Alba

Salma Hayek

Sofia Vergara

Jennifer Lopez

Katharine McPhee

Taylor Swift

Jennifer Lawrence

Eva Longoria

I love wearing dresses, but I'm always strutting my stuff in skinny jeans. If I could be a princess for a day, I would want to be caught wearing the Gucci black gown that Eva Longoria is wearing. I wonder what sewing pattern can replicate this look?? Hmmm...

Later.

Purple Mood

It's super cold, windy and freezing. For whatever reason, I'm feeling PURPLE. So here I go surfing the net for images that reflect my purple mood.

Stay-cation to Mountain High

My muscles are aching, sore and bruised from an amazing weekend of snowboarding at Mountain High in Wrightwood, CA. We stayed at the Yellow House Inn, rented our snowboarding equipment from Benny's and made our way to the EAST SIDE of Mountain High that caters to beginners.

Here's a picture of the Easy Riders Lift:

If you are a beginner, or need a refresher or are traveling to the snow with someone who has had a negative experience with snowboarding, this is the perfect starting point. Do yourself a favor and bring them to this slope that stands only 10 feet tall. You will see people of all ages learn how to ski or snowboard. We hiked up to the nearest tree, locked our snowboards in place, and struggled to stand up. We had to figure out how to shift and distribute the weight of our bodies in order NOT to fall. Snowboarding is challenging, requires upper body strength and BIG fun.

Here I am wearing my snowboarding pants and jacket from Burlington Coat Factory (yes, they have snowboarding gear, thanks Vicky for the tip):

I fell. He fell. We all laughed.

P.S.
I posted links just in case you are interested in your own snowboarding adventure.
