These are some images of suitable rompers with an elegant twist. This is exactly what I need to add to my summer wardrobe. Check this out: A white deep v-neckline plunge with side cutouts and sleeves that move with the wind.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://glamazonsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/rihanna-finderskeepers-friend-of-mine-white-playsuit-birthday-chris-brown-hawaii.jpg" height="300" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Then we have Eva Longoria sporting an emarald green long sleeved crossover top jumpsuit with fitted shorts. I love how she is rocking this look with neutral colored strappy heels.<br />
<img src="http://blog.jaideclothing.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/evagreenromper1.jpg" height="400" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Finally, this black and white halter-style romper with unique racer back straps. It has a hidden zipper on center back and elasticized waistline. <br />
<img src="http://vip.zappos.com/images/z/2/7/4/4/5/1/2744519-2-4x.jpg" height="200" width="171" /><img height="200" src="http://a3.zassets.com/images/z/2/7/4/4/5/1/2744519-1-MULTIVIEW.jpg" width="171" /><br />
<br />
Overall, I would like to sew a romper that can double for casual or out for the night. These are some patterns that I have to help me achieve my fancy romper:<br />
<br />
Vogue 1308 McCall's 6969 <br />
<img alt="V1308" height="200" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Add_1_Full/V1308.jpg" width="189" /> <img alt="M6969" height="200" src="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Add_2_Full/M6969.jpg" width="189" /> <br />
Simplicity 1373<br />
<img height="200" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/1373/1373t.jpg" width="200" /><br />
<br />
Yes, the simplicity pattern 1373 can be customized as a romper by doing some radical moves to the top. First, use the back as the front (both views) and re-draft the back to scoop just below the shoulder blades and close the open back. At the waistline, remove the fabric as directed and add 1.5 inches. Lastly, add the shorts (view D) to the top. Based on my brainstorming, I should have something that looks like this:<br />
<img height="200" src="http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/c6/46/0c/c6460c66ec408fd3af32f5617f9b9bf8.jpg" width="149" /> <img height="200" src="http://www.ustrendy.com/files/store/127806_3_204-2.jpg" width="133" /><br />
Or, I can go vintage with this recent purchase:<br />
<img height="320" src="http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ee/fc/17/eefc175991625e9b3f40ce82822326c3.jpg" width="221" /><br />
<br />
Either way, I need to add a romper/playsuit to my closet to beat the heat in style.<br />
<br />
See you later!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02829357997968252540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1076895515215937075.post-32778027749805910062014-04-15T00:50:00.002-07:002014-04-15T00:50:19.137-07:00Ala Bargainista Fashionista: A Monokini Desire (Test Run)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There is a contest over at sewingpatternreview called Bargainista Fashionista and I'm in it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I found this amazing monokini from Michael Kors with a retail price of $200.00. Take a look at my inspiration for my project: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZIKEQdWGtL0/U0zCevFUZeI/AAAAAAAACQM/sE8bUYuoaCU/s1600/monokinifront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZIKEQdWGtL0/U0zCevFUZeI/AAAAAAAACQM/sE8bUYuoaCU/s1600/monokinifront.jpg" height="320" width="256" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQfGUf0UzN4xfmVhg-0ghtK4m1MKoySp_auAsLbFONjDOluG5FxdOZTaWNsxyOvidEqdSOaRztxqudGb2o6qkP8-9MH-ZccjFQzOXIE_BLRAalBGTmaIvaUVk_pUNuZJwZ36KnN3qMvpU/s1600/monokiniback.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQfGUf0UzN4xfmVhg-0ghtK4m1MKoySp_auAsLbFONjDOluG5FxdOZTaWNsxyOvidEqdSOaRztxqudGb2o6qkP8-9MH-ZccjFQzOXIE_BLRAalBGTmaIvaUVk_pUNuZJwZ36KnN3qMvpU/s1600/monokiniback.jpeg" height="320" width="209" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In order to achieve this look, I purchased Kwik Sew 3608 as pictured here:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="K3608" height="320" src="http://kwiksew.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/K3608.jpg" width="303" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I am a bit intimidated by the idea of flaunting so much skin. However, after I made my own modifications to Kwik Sew 3608, I felt comfortable, confident and sassy. I have never owned this particular type of bathing suit, but it deceivingly worked for my curves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPnopbNZCKUP3MdMZkKLcD4KBMeE9SIO02lVK4FzdrAPkXR-4mG6ox4QDWU59zbICQF8uL2_fmT2XuArGl_kMZnBOS54XVFQR-pBAxY8DoLXJGr86z6Li0PN-N0f2TwEgvt1Zwvq2kVTY/s1600/2014-04-14+22.46.24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPnopbNZCKUP3MdMZkKLcD4KBMeE9SIO02lVK4FzdrAPkXR-4mG6ox4QDWU59zbICQF8uL2_fmT2XuArGl_kMZnBOS54XVFQR-pBAxY8DoLXJGr86z6Li0PN-N0f2TwEgvt1Zwvq2kVTY/s1600/2014-04-14+22.46.24.jpg" height="320" width="220" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is my work in progress (WIP). There were several changes that I had to execute to achieve my monokini desire. First, I traced the pattern on tracing paper. Then, I redrafted a more modest side opening to mirror the Michael Kors Monokini. Also, I dropped the leg opening by grading to the next size. Additionally, I increased the side seams on the back. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is my wearable muslin. Right now, it has no elastic, nor lining. Still to come...trying to figure out how to recreate the same top back piece as my inspiration piece. </div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Night. Night.</div>

Every time my local, big chain fabric store had a sale on Simplicity patterns, I would check for their new vintage pattern from the 1950's, but I could never find it in my size. So for the first time, in a long time, I bought the pattern at full price: $10.75 with a coupon from retailmenot.com.<br />
<img src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/2014/1426/1426.jpg" height="400" width="277" /><br />
<br />
I traced the pattern on tracing paper and added an extra 3/8" to give me a total one inch seam allowance.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzwOJcapJUr8Q6sGNY4hf59rZVl4IohrJqzC-n9GXG53p50rBVZAzuiBo5zqXPfFV1NxtvTDNTCqr0GgmQWlM8thlUJ_cE9x6sv7Z4ZIQ9NiRPd0tAwuXTbgcp2Ggwajiz3DsCw8-KZFk/s1600/2014-04-13+16.35.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzwOJcapJUr8Q6sGNY4hf59rZVl4IohrJqzC-n9GXG53p50rBVZAzuiBo5zqXPfFV1NxtvTDNTCqr0GgmQWlM8thlUJ_cE9x6sv7Z4ZIQ9NiRPd0tAwuXTbgcp2Ggwajiz3DsCw8-KZFk/s1600/2014-04-13+16.35.20.jpg" height="231" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I did my best to follow every step to the tee. On steps 1 through 4, I felt like I was on a roll. However, step 5 (smh) slowed my sewing flow. It reads, <i>"Understitch by pressing seam toward lining and stitching through seam allowances close to seam."</i> I had to do a quick youtube search on understitching, Once I figured out the correct seams to understitch, things were running smooth. I had to spend some time with my seam ripper because I made a blooper. I understitched correctly, but on the wrong seams...lol. My seam ripper rocks!!<br />
<br />
The flowers on my fabric are very busy, so I used a solid color to balance everything out. I am glee happy to have almost finished this bra top. Here it is:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjH1sc2VW9wP0FIyvYePNobFFlE4bBxIBXopQB-25iytbQCLcSQrmiqTkoUTalRP0sGz3WHr-Rawj6mm3noWQEh13IGnNVhFJLJSbWfLDalZowBlGf-iG5e0MqnT9Qz4Y2fCkrjEy7H8/s1600/2014-04-13+15.31.00+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjH1sc2VW9wP0FIyvYePNobFFlE4bBxIBXopQB-25iytbQCLcSQrmiqTkoUTalRP0sGz3WHr-Rawj6mm3noWQEh13IGnNVhFJLJSbWfLDalZowBlGf-iG5e0MqnT9Qz4Y2fCkrjEy7H8/s1600/2014-04-13+15.31.00+(1).jpg" height="351" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I just need to complete step 16, which means I have to add the buttons. Right now, a safety pin is completing the ensemble. See it:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-EahixZZigCQlqIcFxti4OfQ7stXohn9jBVn5yY0eWyjLpmM2w5eBtnrhta9BXN21SpdJyRchqJ0jT3wsaeRdEvMDqSdkzIqn3JuS5jfl1B90l5QCVbn2PBS2JBRCNWexf_1gUw13ddA/s1600/20140413_165817.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-EahixZZigCQlqIcFxti4OfQ7stXohn9jBVn5yY0eWyjLpmM2w5eBtnrhta9BXN21SpdJyRchqJ0jT3wsaeRdEvMDqSdkzIqn3JuS5jfl1B90l5QCVbn2PBS2JBRCNWexf_1gUw13ddA/s1600/20140413_165817.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
This was my practice run for this pattern. I made some mistakes and learned from them. I plan on making version B and C on a later date. I am loving this vintage bra top.<br />
<br />
Hasta Luego!!<br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02829357997968252540noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1076895515215937075.post-56585608245303506822014-03-31T15:05:00.000-07:002014-03-31T15:05:20.150-07:00Quick Recon Idea for an Oversized TeeI desperately needed a work out top, so I reached for one of my over-sized t-shirts. As seen here:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe0e7aEtlZr31zyMIZngYDv79d_1P746jYvXYLUNXIpQlWB2SMm1ND6nkxUHdpp4zOVBJ1piPllcSeDm4J9ICtl3Uk3L8tg_UpbO_MJOYSaZLltpYtBCl7Bj6IMHhEvaA5kHnJ2Z0Ab0c/s1600/20140331_103151+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe0e7aEtlZr31zyMIZngYDv79d_1P746jYvXYLUNXIpQlWB2SMm1ND6nkxUHdpp4zOVBJ1piPllcSeDm4J9ICtl3Uk3L8tg_UpbO_MJOYSaZLltpYtBCl7Bj6IMHhEvaA5kHnJ2Z0Ab0c/s1600/20140331_103151+(1).jpg" height="320" width="184" /></a></div>
So, I grabbed my scissors and started figuring out how to expose my shoulders, but keep the under arm covered. At the same time, I re-did the seam line from the sleeve to the side seam to get a more fitted look. This is the result:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_JCs2HFYTUFMEmktMFocYH2H_cwPz83Wsi6ExbMQPGmN5QH_47jVOisJXS1PDvaFHN9RdRX0COSUUTo4YA4P9Ypb8g7y1NhXNoc5lH0F5DVZeXErvlyU1XXrZJjc60ZrMTlbKgzRPWGM/s1600/20140331_110354.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_JCs2HFYTUFMEmktMFocYH2H_cwPz83Wsi6ExbMQPGmN5QH_47jVOisJXS1PDvaFHN9RdRX0COSUUTo4YA4P9Ypb8g7y1NhXNoc5lH0F5DVZeXErvlyU1XXrZJjc60ZrMTlbKgzRPWGM/s1600/20140331_110354.jpg" height="320" width="178" /></a></div>
I was pleased with the result. While at the gym, I noticed that the sleeve part kept sliding down. So, I'm planning to adjust the ease of the sleeve. Other than that, this t-shirt held up pretty good as I ran two miles and worked out with weights.<br />
<br />
Laters.<br />

It was the first time I invested in Burdastyle because I usually avoid them. Why? Well, if you must know, the sizing is very typical for gals that are on the slender, more proportioned side. My curves are full, ample and beyond their average sizing.<br />
Did I mention this is a magazine for plus size? Honestly, I had to get over the whole word itself "PLUS"...ugh. I mean do we really need to announce it, and give it its own category. Then, the models they have don't really fill up the clothes because the models are too skinny for the fashion pieces. Once again, I just had to settle, accept, and move on.<br />
<br />
Let me show you the goodies inside:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am very excited about these looks. Since it will be my first time exploring a burdastyle magazine, I will be using the internet for hints on how to lift the pattern on to paper. I plan on chosing a design that has the least amount of pieces, just to get the hang of it.</div>

This is great because I like to wear hoodies for work and the gym constantly. The pattern I used was vogue 8951. As seen here:<br />
<img src="http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4762372649058681&pid=1.9&m=&w=300&h=300&p=0" /> <br />
It is described as a close-fitting tunic for moderate stretch knits. I bought this army knit fabric a couple of months ago, not really knowing how I was going to use it. Here's a picture with an actual model from vogue:<br />
<img src="http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.5029511022313579&pid=1.9&m=&w=300&h=300&p=0" /><br />
<br />
I am so happy with the results. This is my wearable muslin, as I plan to take this pattern through some ambitious "re-visioning". I plan to incorporate some changes to the hem to make this a tunic with a curved hemline, so as to look something like this:<br />
<br />
<img src="http://cdnd.lystit.com/photos/2013/05/02/by-zoe-black-jersey-tunic-top-product-2-8387683-849322490_large_flex.jpeg" /><br />
Another inspiring change would be to make a sleeveless version inspired by zumba attire. Check this out:<br />
<br />
<img src="http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4890478632437008&w=167&h=173&c=7&rs=1&pid=1.7" /> <img height="320" src="http://www.zumbashopdresden.de/media/bakery/images/item1149/4-z1t00406-whte.jpg" width="320" /><br />
<br />
There are just so many ways that this basic, very easy pattern can enhance your work out gear. This is another idea of what I want to do with this pattern. I would like to remove the v-neck and make a crew cut neckline with a raised sideways hoodie like this one:<br />
<img src="http://cdn.rap-up.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/kendrick-nba-all-star.jpg" /><br />
<br />
So enough of my pending ventures with this pattern. Let's just get to the final product. Here it is:<br />
<br />
<img alt="Displaying 20140216_214916.jpg" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=4f853b27d5&view=fimg&th=1443e6a7dcf546a3&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=1460264297049358336-local0&safe=1&attbid=ANGjdJ8rcdYBcBDawdnXYbpbt5hkLEi-IBYkQ6DE--0V7wQ1KY4GlM71Yg6BB5QWSntHZTwyuQGOXafiqRbONMnu0LzbqAD4AOiMlumKxq3-zxOco93Kohf7xJ5tJdQ&ats=1392619801883&rm=1443e6a7dcf546a3&zw&sz=w912-h328" /> <img alt="Displaying 20140216_214933.jpg" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=4f853b27d5&view=fimg&th=1443e689859ee582&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=1460264169657860096-local0&safe=1&attbid=ANGjdJ95O3_LsvHOqOSh4DkqPRjHEJ1qXzCwKzAoIECL48tN3HanOwX8nzOnd4BaaFBKe-drsVIggVF8DuVxM8JOfV5JBUl1DCUnKNq6SRTNxE679SMUctQsCP-i7KU&ats=1392619801915&rm=1443e689859ee582&zw&sz=w912-h328" /> <img alt="Displaying 20140216_214925.jpg" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=4f853b27d5&view=fimg&th=1443e697e85288b2&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=1460264229431934976-local0&safe=1&attbid=ANGjdJ8zwKF6o7g1Pf-tIwc_1qHpBBU78Rtg_ABLpbmnikE2kfTNTDrzsnV-YbzAISAeMpyMvsD8J5fdMChUI3FzZKG-PmIRX5_0l2YxFp-yEKobq42SI1dVRGYBO4A&ats=1392619801900&rm=1443e697e85288b2&zw&sz=w912-h328" /><br />
There were some changes I had to make: added length to sleeves, removed excess ease from waistline, and skipped out on the interfacing. It is categorized as "very easy" and it is just that. This pattern will definitely "jazz up" my work out gear.<br />
<br />
Good night.<br />

<br />
It is the end of January and I have been going to aqua aerobics classes. We have been having lots of sun which made it appropriate for me to make a bathing suit. I purchased a vintage swimsuit pattern from Etsy many months ago. Check it:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs27DGD2m_jI7srv7TQR8x7_du9tm_As7D3xNpg97WUGKvejaa57n8XCaMmKYFdHy99Dtcmr5HRcQYBdhQSIcwl0dIn0LBqJdwbPyTiisX4XI61dnxLcoQ3-svj69A0kuYD2-RZo_2ZYo/s1600/20140126_145723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs27DGD2m_jI7srv7TQR8x7_du9tm_As7D3xNpg97WUGKvejaa57n8XCaMmKYFdHy99Dtcmr5HRcQYBdhQSIcwl0dIn0LBqJdwbPyTiisX4XI61dnxLcoQ3-svj69A0kuYD2-RZo_2ZYo/s1600/20140126_145723.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose to do the one piece (swimsuit B) with donated swimwear fabric. It was simple to put the bathing suit together. The instructions were clear. I did do something different. I added elastic along the center back seam to get the desired WOW factor on the "booty". I am loving my one piece!! Here are the results:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Swimsuit B- Back</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It took about four days (spaced out in a two week period) to finish this beauty. I enjoyed working with this vintage pattern. Next time, I want to make something that looks like this: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Y7BdM2xr99SRyl_z4ath2IuPSOAvQVxP_tuJpZMcjYjBcWChIcNu6Mnnsz-e7W9gctZVoAaOo6uTOtE7WWxqUoS2bI1-RhwXaXRkWHgpIjXIpMBTzsuZ2BnWWlffRVsYIBfMWNkyTd0/s1600/bathing.suit.triangle.open.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Y7BdM2xr99SRyl_z4ath2IuPSOAvQVxP_tuJpZMcjYjBcWChIcNu6Mnnsz-e7W9gctZVoAaOo6uTOtE7WWxqUoS2bI1-RhwXaXRkWHgpIjXIpMBTzsuZ2BnWWlffRVsYIBfMWNkyTd0/s1600/bathing.suit.triangle.open.jpg" height="320" width="195" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like the triangle opening near bust area. I think I have the right pattern to do this alterations. Wish me luck!!</div>

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
You know it's winter when you need extra blankets to keep you warm. The hardest thing about winter, for me, has always been to get to the gym. It is just so tempting to skip working out to lounge around the house. To help me stay on track, I wanted to make some new sports bras. I had been eyeing the <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/10101" target="_blank">Jalie 2563</a> for a long time and finally decided to invest on this pattern.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished view A using donated African print swimwear fabric. Here's a look:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrfAy2AsnFOt27VhWenSIAwXXL7gSdSbBCQSeZodsHEoDh99SYwKku2gIHwsva3gk3ouxKiDbswMGwekNcIeIznjdq_uhCbM1Luteu5u_Zm621GKxfgmrcO8zlj3wSjshkmU9q5DZzU4/s1600/20131111_141421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrfAy2AsnFOt27VhWenSIAwXXL7gSdSbBCQSeZodsHEoDh99SYwKku2gIHwsva3gk3ouxKiDbswMGwekNcIeIznjdq_uhCbM1Luteu5u_Zm621GKxfgmrcO8zlj3wSjshkmU9q5DZzU4/s320/20131111_141421.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pattern was easy to trace, cut, and sew. This was my wearable muslin, so I will be adding full lining to both front and back pieces. I think adding full lining will polish up the inside of the bra. Also, I will be lowering the neckline to fit tank tops. I have an idea to make my sports bra give the illusion that I have bigger ta-tas through strategic color blocking and cutting. More on that later...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will let you know how this sports bra holds up when I'm running on the treadmill, doing zumba, or practicing yoga. </div>

<br />
It's been a long time since I have posted anything, but in a nutshell: I had a super busy summer with two online classes, working summer school that led me to NYC (pictures to come later) as my reward and started the new school year. Needless to say, I had no time for sewing.<br />
<br />
Here we are enjoying our time together.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02829357997968252540noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1076895515215937075.post-79518369898644203792013-07-02T18:02:00.000-07:002013-07-02T18:02:10.718-07:00A Raceback Swimsuit (In Progress) It has been so HOT in CALi...Omygosh! I have been working on this one piece racerback swimsuit using Jalie 3134. Here's a glimpse:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBajLT1Hiz61xfm0KaVBM_8isJ4HnuHhq7-QahC49_V3DUlDTRjhX9QlXMc6dWMAs6CjmPLygxY_K739CT4LXZd0ADl4aDh56A1kNCAnPJmWfFe0uTVYz_tWdwovaOujYpTWYZbAcKiIU/s742/PicsArt_1372633120452.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBajLT1Hiz61xfm0KaVBM_8isJ4HnuHhq7-QahC49_V3DUlDTRjhX9QlXMc6dWMAs6CjmPLygxY_K739CT4LXZd0ADl4aDh56A1kNCAnPJmWfFe0uTVYz_tWdwovaOujYpTWYZbAcKiIU/s320/PicsArt_1372633120452.jpg" width="199" /></a></div>
<br />
All I need is a bathing suit that is curve- friendly. That's it! But finding a racerback suitable for voluptuous-ness below the waist is super impossible. Thus, I dropped the leg opening down a bit on both front and back. Here's the back view:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGzpCe53h6MajYYEtbi4OsFDjbNbzh0aAmexFchmc72da8PKJmhwndFJap8MBhZ44zvNIEMw529EZYJT7zGaDOLjTgKRlpqW__3oygQIgDGh9NiB7umljQX_-KZ2v3_BJ0aAWvCGjco6Q/s777/PicsArt_1372633616222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGzpCe53h6MajYYEtbi4OsFDjbNbzh0aAmexFchmc72da8PKJmhwndFJap8MBhZ44zvNIEMw529EZYJT7zGaDOLjTgKRlpqW__3oygQIgDGh9NiB7umljQX_-KZ2v3_BJ0aAWvCGjco6Q/s320/PicsArt_1372633616222.jpg" width="182" /></a></div>
<br />
So far, I have been impressed with the spot on preciseness in fitting. I have to admit that getting caught up on fitting adjustments is probably my downfall. I am getting better at adjusting the fit for my curves, but it is a breath of fresh air when the pattern pieces fit like a glove.<br />
The only adjustment that I had to make was with the back band and straps. The black lycra- spandex has way too much stretch that I had to make both of these pattern pieces three sizes smaller. Something I am planning to do to minimize the stretch is to add another layer of the same material on both the straps and back band. I guess it can be considered as lining the back band and straps to keep things simple. Nonetheless, I am very pleased with the fitting.<br />
<br />
Happy summer sewing!!<br />

Check these out:<br />
<img height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/27919315_038_m1?$product410x615$" width="266" /> <img alt="Naya Maxi Dress" height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/27919315_038_c?$$RD2012_category_item$$" width="267" /> <br />
If you are interested, you can buy it <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shopnew-clothes/27919315.jsp" target="_blank">here.</a> An interesting design detail about this dress, it has a side zipper. On to the next:<br />
<img height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/27499227_049_2x3?$product410x615$" width="266" /> <img height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/27499227_049_c?$product410x615$" width="266" /><br />
If you are splurging, you can buy it <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/shopnew-clothes/27499227.jsp" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
<br />
<img alt="PRINTED FLUTTER SLEEVE MAXI DRESS" src="http://images.express.com/is/image/expressfashion/74_936_2497_026?$dcat191$" /> <br />
This one shows too much skin for work, but it's perfect for summer. You can find it <a href="http://www.express.com/clothing/printed+flutter+sleeve+maxi+dress/pro/9362497/cat550001" target="_blank">here</a>, if you are interested.<br />
<img height="400" src="http://images.neimanmarcus.com/ca/1/products/mx/NMT6AFE_mx.jpg" width="320" /> <img height="400" src="http://images.neimanmarcus.com/ca/1/products/ax/NMT6AFE_ax.jpg" width="320" /><br />
I have a beige denim cropped jacket, so I could make this maxi dress appropriate for work. If you want to add this to your wardrobe, you can buy it <a href="http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/Ella-Moss-Zuma-Surplice-Maxi-Dress/prod158380001_cat47250739__/?icid=&searchType=EndecaDrivenCat&rte=%252Fcategory.service%253FitemId%253Dcat47250739%2526pageSize%253D30%2526No%253D60%2526refinements%253D&eItemId=prod158380001&cmCat=product" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Later, I will go through sewing patterns to replicate a maxi dress.<br />
<br />
Adios.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh5PHl-wAtn7BJNePh56fZw9JZElO7ryK_Hv8gYG1FpRlHjhp7CcSuajVcRwEVwu-LTZ2cn2i-GRtL_anYxVdL0iv2oWgUPtEcju76ujXMIVHSsgQrVEwU_jfiL1msSexqD7DCGSXfHrs/s1600/20130512_232109+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh5PHl-wAtn7BJNePh56fZw9JZElO7ryK_Hv8gYG1FpRlHjhp7CcSuajVcRwEVwu-LTZ2cn2i-GRtL_anYxVdL0iv2oWgUPtEcju76ujXMIVHSsgQrVEwU_jfiL1msSexqD7DCGSXfHrs/s320/20130512_232109+(1).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I used some newspaper and a highlighter to trace the outline of sports bra. I folded the center front and center back. Check it out:<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYA309HfwwBbRW691s3nSeOcnhPNzC2zr48yGvpOzsG9xWsadJAhfd2bt5t_ZEDFETikodAoaN9Ze8mss8Uf0g3cN9GK17_GGmI4v9UCFcknmvJJHAgwNnTDjZvL7onqTMSRj6J1N7lYM/s1600/20130512_232233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYA309HfwwBbRW691s3nSeOcnhPNzC2zr48yGvpOzsG9xWsadJAhfd2bt5t_ZEDFETikodAoaN9Ze8mss8Uf0g3cN9GK17_GGmI4v9UCFcknmvJJHAgwNnTDjZvL7onqTMSRj6J1N7lYM/s320/20130512_232233.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After I had my pattern pieces, I pinned them on donated swimwear fabric, cut the pieces and basted. I did add another layer of swimwear fabric for lining. And Voila:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I attached the band using a slipstitch, and all I need is to set in the elastic. This is my first "copy cat" project, and it will most likely not be my last one. Nite. Nite.</div>

The fabric is stretch cotton purchased years ago. I really wanted to finish this today since the weather has been getting hotter and I need some capris badly. Once I have the desired fit worked out, I plan on making a couple more. So, my time with this pattern is not over, but it is for now.</div>

I have made several fitting adjustments to capture the essence of these close fitting capris with a back zipper. First of all, the model must be as tall as a giraffe, because I have had to shorten the pattern pieces by five inches. Ok, well maybe I'm shorter than I thought. Nonetheless, that change got taken care of. Secondly, I lowered the waistline by an inch and a half simply due to personal preference. During the tissue-fitting, I was able to double check the outer side seams. I would like to achieved the same look, so I am pin-fitting with minimal ease. Thirdly, I had to redraw the "U" shape on the front and back pieces because the lines were sitting too low compared to my curves. This was my first attempt at ever changing the crotch curve. Hopefully, it all works out.<br />
<br />
<img alt="B5895" src="http://butterick.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Add_2_Full/B5895.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
<br />
Now, for the problem at hand. I would like to get rid of the extra fabric creating ripples under the model's toosh. During my tissue-fitting, I noticed the same thing. So, I did and image check on Bing to see pictures of other capris with a back zipper. I found this one: <br />
<br />
<br />
<img src="http://15dollarstore.com/img/13506_1_823_p.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
Do you see what I see? These capris have princess seams that would probably be unnoticed on darker fabric. Would this be the solution to get rid of the extra fabric hanging under the <i>pompis </i>[another Spanish word for butt]???<br />
<br />
To Be Continued...<br />

O-yeah, uh-huh!! I used McCall's 5651 version D with donated swimwear fabric and lace from my sewing class. Once again, I traced the pattern pieces onto tracing paper to preserve the original pattern pieces. I used a ballpoint needle, zig-zag stitch width 3 and length 4 for the braided elastic, and the lightning bolt stitch for lace.<br />
This was my first time working with lace, so I turned to one of my sewing books for some helpful hints. The Complete Photo Guide to Sewing suggested to use a small zig-zag stitch. What a breeze. So here it is:<br />
<br />
<img height="300" src="https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=4f853b27d5&view=att&th=13e3aa0ae0c3386f&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=1433175996789424128-1&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_QaqiX7T8t7R-UHXje2Zvh&sadet=1366785393438&sads=CvI7BlM1NJMuSd2z7yJ4uJDbeNE" width="400" /> <br />
[Front]<br />
<br />
<img height="300" src="https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=4f853b27d5&view=att&th=13e3aa1d1dea9f27&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=1433176043947032576-1&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P_QaqiX7T8t7R-UHXje2Zvh&sadet=1366785549953&sads=KpCTxNEdzHKCLbW_qERXvlLtPQ0" width="400" /> <br />
[Back]<br />
The pattern suggest to place elastic on the waist but I like how it looks without it. The area where the elastic meets the lace had to be modified. I folded the elastic side by side and used the lightning bolt stitch to make that part thinner. Come to think about it, I should make that alteration on the pattern piece. Ok, well these chonis were super comfortable and my hubby liked them. Shhh! Don't mention it.<br />
<br />
Laters.<br />

I used McCall's 4261 as seen <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4261-products-1839.php?page_id=118&search_control=display&list=search" target="_blank">here</a> in Version C using swimwear 4-way stretch fabric. Peep this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheNjFhGqFD0sjEwW_C9Fga4784eu0KzcoXhal0ot2pOg3UFffdvvWbCrES5m16Dc8Pq4uQhK2jCGCtCSsoGjjgjA92ScV7pb-Tj68g67WeaL1tg2ouyeNoGDx-oSm5iEkABTWy8zRfaeY/s1600/20130413_205253.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheNjFhGqFD0sjEwW_C9Fga4784eu0KzcoXhal0ot2pOg3UFffdvvWbCrES5m16Dc8Pq4uQhK2jCGCtCSsoGjjgjA92ScV7pb-Tj68g67WeaL1tg2ouyeNoGDx-oSm5iEkABTWy8zRfaeY/s320/20130413_205253.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pattern to make this simple sports bra has only three pattern pieces. Yay-yeah! To preserve my original pattern pieces, I traced the size I needed. I used self-fabric as lining instead of what the pattern recommends- tricot. Currently, I'm taking a swimwear sewing class, and using the self fabric gives you more support and coverage. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsowSo98z_qAjfsjYukNuVYZBtA9k5IUFG77eyZzsTgeUtEml2BHCT872mrFnec_PwnP2WPRuYKpqHACADge0wrdEmmy0D3khchqqpxJUHMvGlQy2rFXmjlArX2Y7P03KVohAVsT826bw/s1600/20130413_205305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsowSo98z_qAjfsjYukNuVYZBtA9k5IUFG77eyZzsTgeUtEml2BHCT872mrFnec_PwnP2WPRuYKpqHACADge0wrdEmmy0D3khchqqpxJUHMvGlQy2rFXmjlArX2Y7P03KVohAVsT826bw/s320/20130413_205305.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ta-ta-tum...the big-o-gap popped up only on side. This has to do with the distribution of the braided elastic. I will ask my sewing teacher for her recommendations. She had us do a math calculation for elastic distribution on the triangle bra, so I'm hoping she can shed some light on this sports bra. I will keep you updated. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv5c_GtTv1HdrR3SgoqoCM-PlRZpzNmGn-Wq4f0iXlGCP7DKUsU5CoFwXCq_b097s-K0fmXK3oJGQNcb9yMdn6b9uWVSC_BOgAceTgy3GuZ4JB1VBdkPdFmkuVmEnNf-nbx2f9Mr6xsSU/s1600/20130413_205316.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv5c_GtTv1HdrR3SgoqoCM-PlRZpzNmGn-Wq4f0iXlGCP7DKUsU5CoFwXCq_b097s-K0fmXK3oJGQNcb9yMdn6b9uWVSC_BOgAceTgy3GuZ4JB1VBdkPdFmkuVmEnNf-nbx2f9Mr6xsSU/s320/20130413_205316.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is how it looks on the left side- elastic firmly laying flat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxOgLbdJw9tnIdFGRpxG-VWtkcHEWGDpbyMwBRntQ0t-fcN6yFbG_FUxfiOWx4uAKq84oHqJg7R4Rnl7g2w67AUb1hvUSnumZU_8qLQv7Mbod2x6nc-IB7XzeTUi2rh2sIPraHn7qKC5E/s1600/20130413_205327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxOgLbdJw9tnIdFGRpxG-VWtkcHEWGDpbyMwBRntQ0t-fcN6yFbG_FUxfiOWx4uAKq84oHqJg7R4Rnl7g2w67AUb1hvUSnumZU_8qLQv7Mbod2x6nc-IB7XzeTUi2rh2sIPraHn7qKC5E/s320/20130413_205327.jpg" width="240" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the back view of my sports bra. I am blown away by how comfortable this feels on me. I will be testing the support either by running or doing zumba. If this sports bra gives me the right support, I'm definitely going to be making more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bu-bye.</div>

If you are interested, you can check <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/butterick-contest---timeline-pages-4479.php" target="_blank">here</a> to find out more.<br />
I took the time to view their timeline that showed Butterick patterns "evolving through the decades.." (their words not mine..lol). Then, there it was- a picture of Marilyn Monroe wearing the iconic white halter top dress alongside B 4919 as seen <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b4919-products-5273.php?page_id=371&search_control=display&list=search" target="_blank">here</a>. I so HEART Marilyn Monroe and will be searching for an inspirational picture to possibly recreate the look. So far, check these 'hot little numbers' out:<br />

Based on these pics, it seems like I have a particular style in mind. I like the figure hugging, slim-fitting dresses with a modest hemline. Now I have to see what sewing patterns can be used to make my desired look. If you have any suggestions on sewing patterns (it doesn't have to be Butterick), just drop a comment.<br />

A few seconds later, I stumbled on these polka dot, back zipper capris. This look is totally do-able for the home seamstress on a tiny budget. You can use Butterick 5895 as seen <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b5895-products-44972.php?page_id=147" target="_blank">here.</a> FYI: Joann's is having a 5 for $5 sale on all Butterick sewing patterns from Thurs., April 4 to Sat., April 6th.<br />
<br />
There are certain items that I will splurge on, but I often prefer to live within my means. I'm putting these creative suggestions together to use as a future reference for everyone and anyone to undertake.<br />
<br />
Adios.<br />

Check out her blog <a href="http://luckylucille.com/2013/02/sew-for-victory-a-40s-sewalong/" target="_blank">here</a>. This was my first time participating in a sew along that was truly at your own pace. I started working on my retro dress from Simplicity, as mentioned <a href="http://latenightsewing.blogspot.com/2013/02/made-my-choice-simplicity-1777.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://latenightsewing.blogspot.com/2013/03/basted-and-sleeveless-simplicity-1777.html" target="_blank">here</a>, sometime in February. There were many adjustments, bloopers, mishaps, and fitting issues that I had to plow through in order to finish in time. So here are the pictures that my hubby took:<br />

<br />
Overall, the dress looks fabulous to the untrained eye, but it does have unfinished hems at the bottom and sleeves. I had to do so many alterations because in the middle of this sew along, I made a lifestyle change. I decided to give up Fast Food for Lent, meaning I would be cooking my own meals at home. Well, I started loosing inches from bust, waist, and hip area gradually. Therefore, I kept having to fix the side seams because I wanted the dress to compliment my curves. It was a lot of hard work and feel super excited about these pics.<br />

<span style="text-align: start;">I have been working steadily on my 1940's retro dress from Simplicity 1777 to meet the deadline for my first sewing challenge as previously posted </span><a href="http://latenightsewing.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-first-sew-along.html" style="text-align: start;" target="_blank">here</a><span style="text-align: start;">. I love the pattern, but I have to admit, the pattern required a couple of major alterations around the waistline area, sleeves, and neckline. Since I used matte jersey fabric (stretchy), these changes have been easier to make. </span></div>

I like the idea of looking through my stash and dedicating time to a pattern that I have purchased in the past. So, I did choose a pattern. Here you go:<br />

I will do version B. I have been a busy bee this weekend. Here are some pictures of my pin fitting:<br />

<br />
In a nutshell, these are the changes I have made so far to get the desired fit: (1) added 1.75 inches to the side seams, (2) pinned the princess seams at 0.5 inches and (3) dropped the neckline 0.5 inches. Those changes helped get the fit right for my curves.<br />

Here is the inspiring dress:<br />
<br />
<img height="285" src="http://thegloss.com/files/2010/01/20100103-oscar-de-la-renta-spring-dresses-1.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Love, love, love the black and white dress on the left side. I have no idea how much this dress would cost, but I'm sure it's out of my price range..lol. But, that's why I sew. I have to look through my patterns to see which ones come close to make my own version of this uptown, classy dress.<br />
I do have the Peony dress pattern from <a href="http://www.colettepatterns.com/shop/peony" target="_blank">Colette</a>. The structure of the Peony Dress seems to match the profile of the Oscar De La Renta dress. Of course, the changes that would be made include (1) changing the neckline to a V-neck, (2) Take out the sleeves, (3) Add the neckline detail, and (4) make a bow belt.<br />
<br />
Here's a quick sketch of what would be my Upscale Peony Inspired Frock by Oscar De La Renta:<br />

<br />
Here I am wearing my version of Simplicity 1777 on matte jersey fabric. I had to switch the fabric as previously mentioned <a href="http://latenightsewing.blogspot.com/2013/02/made-my-choice-simplicity-1777.html" target="_blank">here.</a> I also realized that the muslin fabric I was using (linen) did not match the fabric I was going to use (matte jersey).<br />
I love how the dress looks, but when I followed the instructions for gathering the center front bodice and skirt, I had to get rid of them. I decide to keep the inverted gather at the center front and eliminated the rest. These extra gathers near my waistline were not working for me because gathers add bulk. So, out the window they go, asap!!<br />
Everything has been machine basted. Now, its time for the sleeves.<br />
